JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Resit Results, Withholds Thousands

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of candidates who participated in the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the board announced on Friday, May 23, 2025.

A total of 336,845 candidates were scheduled to retake the examination following technical failures and irregularities reported at several centres during the initial UTME in April.

Of those scheduled, 21,082 candidates were marked absent.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB confirmed that all results—except those linked to confirmed cases of examination malpractice or under further review—have now been released.

The board noted that results previously withheld for under-age candidates, as well as those found to have participated in so-called “WhatsApp Runs” and other misconduct, have also been released in the spirit of what it called a “healing process.”

However, JAMB clarified that such results would not qualify affected candidates for admission, as per existing policy.

“Such result does not… qualify them for admission, as they had previously signed an undertaking during the registration process acknowledging that only those who meet the prescribed standards would be considered for under-age special admission,” the board stated.

JAMB explained that this decision followed a national meeting of its Chief External Examiners (CEEs), held across all states to review the resit examination process.

The session was chaired by Professor Olufemi Peters, Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), who also serves as the Chief External Examiner for the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, Professor Boniface Nworgu, a psychometrics expert, was invited to independently analyse the results before final approval.

On candidates found to have engaged in illicit result-fixing attempts via social media groups, particularly WhatsApp, JAMB said: “The meeting emphasised that its decision is not an endorsement of candidates’ unacceptable acts, rather a once and for all waiver.”

It cautioned candidates against joining “anti-social groups” in future examinations.

The board also revealed that some results previously released have now been withdrawn based on new information from security agencies investigating examination infractions.

“Candidates with earlier released results need not recheck their results, as those affected by the withdrawal are being notified through text messages, their profiles, and emails,” the statement added.

JAMB reiterated that the use of its SMS shortcodes (55019 and 66019) does not serve as a revenue stream for the board.

“The shortcode approach is to protect the critical data of the candidates and to curtail their cybercafé-extortion during their desperate check for results.”

Meanwhile, mop-up examinations are still being planned for candidates with unresolved issues not related to misconduct.
