Jega, DHQ, NSA Meet Over General Elections

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega; representatives of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Army, Air Force, and Navy; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki on Monday, February 23, 2015 held a meeting in Abuja to assess the security situation of the country ahead of the forthcoming polls.

Others present at the meeting included representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Directorate of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Commission (NSCDC), Customs Service, Immigration Service, Fire Service and Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The details and outcome of the meeting which was chaired by Jega and Dasuki was not made public, although the Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Kayode Idowu, confirmed that the meeting was routine and not directed at making policies.

He said: “It was a routine meeting that evaluates the environment. Incidentally, this level is not a policy thing; this meeting is an operational meeting, which is to plan, of course, for the election.”
