AIG Mbu Detains AIT Presenter For Calling Him ‘Controversial’

Must read

Former commissioner of police for Rivers state and the Federal Capital territory (FCT) and current Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police for zone 7, Mbu Joseph Mbu has allegedly detained an Africa Independent Television (AIT) presenter, Amaechi Anakwue, who anchors the program “Matters Arising” for referring to him as controversial, according to Thisday.

Mbu was said to have been incensed over the statement which Anakwue was said to have made the comment in an episode of the program earlier in the week, apparently in reference to his seemingly turbulent tenure as commissioner of police in Rivers state, where he had several face-offs with governor Rotimi Amaechi, allegedly on presidential orders.

The presently was reportedly invited for questioning by Mbu on Thursday, October 2, 2014, but on reaching the station, he was allegedly harassed by policemen and subsequently detained.

Following his arrest, several calls for his immediate and unconditional release were made by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), AIT chapter and the management of AIT but to no avail

According to Thisday, all moves to contact Mbu and his spokesperson proved abortive as calls were left unanswered.
