Residents and security operatives in Damaturu, Yobe State capital has reported that the city is currently under heavy gunfire and multiple explosions forcing people to flee the city o foot.
Shooting and heavy artillery fire was repeatedly heard on the outskirts of Damaturu in north-eastern Nigeria on Friday, January 9, 2014.
Witnesses who also flee the city narrated that the attack started at about 8p.m.
“We are under attack; gun shooting everywhere in Damaturu, we don’t know what to do now,” a witness told Premium Times.
Another State Security Service, SSS, pleaded anonymous confirmed the attack and assured that soldiers are already fighting back to contain the attack
“Yes, there is an attack going on here and I believe the soldiers and the police are containing the attacks”.
The Islamist sects had on Monday, December 1, 2014 launched an attack on Damaturu city but were contained by the military forces.
