MAKURDI, Nigeria — Regina Akume, who represents the Gboko/Tarka federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has appealed to her husband, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to “come back to Christianity,” saying his success is tied to his Christian background.
Her remarks were captured on video during a wedding reception for the couple’s son in Makurdi on Sunday, December 28, 2025, an event that also coincided with the senior politician’s 72nd birthday celebrations.

In a prayer offered at the reception, Akume asked for divine favour for her husband, saying, “I pray that the Lord will increase his years, grant him good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things rightly.”
She said her husband’s career had been shaped by his religious upbringing, adding a caution about moving away from it.
“And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To abandon Christianity now and pursue anything else, he will not be successful,” she said.
Offering direct advice, she added, “So my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ.”
She further stated, “We came all the way to SGF not through any other means but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working, doing things for us. So, I wish that he will come back to Christianity.”
The comments have circulated widely on social media, drawing attention as public discussion continues around reports that Akume has taken another wife.
Those reports have identified the woman as Her Highness, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba.
