This question has lingered in the minds of many Christians over the years. Actually, there are numerous things that the bible records of God which, in the natural, our minds cannot help questioning.
For instance, it’s said that God is good all the times, but this very God made hell, so one is compelled to question the goodness of God. In a different analogy, Jesus Christ is God, but He was crucified on a cross, now how is God crucified on a cross? Is He really God if human beings can crucify Him? Beyond those questions is the ultimate question: Is it ok for Christians to question God?
Even in the scripture we find giants of faith questioned God. Jeremiah, for instance, questioned His justice in Jer.12:1 saying: ‘’You are always righteous, LORD, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?’’ The Israelites too questioned God a number of times during the exodus.
However, one thing is clear: Our God is a supernatural God. He put the whole universe in place and nothing that happens in it is by chance, only by His divine intervention. God understood is a god; His nature is just too awesome to perfectly fit into our small minds. Solomon records that you can stay up all day and all night but you can never fathom what God is doing, therefore questioning Him is useless. Besides, nobody can do anything about God’s plans. In Ecclesiastes 3:11 Solomon says ‘’He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.’’ So Christians shouldn’t question God.
