As the threat of insurgency has taken a dangerous dimension the North-Eastern Nigeria, the Nigerian military has reiterated its promise to the Joint Committee on Defence of the National Assembly that everything will be done to reverse the advances of the insurgents in the country and defeat the Boko Haram terrorists, adding that the apprehension among citizens and foreign military allies was understandable.
In a statement released on Friday, September 5, 2014 and signed by Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, the Nigerian military welcomed the growing concerns by Nigerians and the international community as to the activities of the menacing Boko Haram terrorists, stating that the Nigerian Armed Forces is more determined than ever to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity regardless of the insurgents.
According to the statement, the integrity of both the military and the whole country is at stake, urging Nigerians to keep hope alive and remain unfazed in the present condition but rally round the military as they take steps to ensure that the war on terror is completely won, especially when the insurgents are threatening the sovereignty of the country.
Olukolade went on to say that with all this in mind, the Nigerian military is fully conscious of what is obligated of it, stating that it is willing and ready to act likewise, stating that what the military needs is not “pillories but continued support from all stakeholders and comity of nations.”
He went on to say that this is not the time for blame trading or despair, rather it is a tome for everybody to make efforts to stop those who are seeking to destroy the country and its civilization.
In conclusion, the Nigerian military as a fighting force is assuring Nigerians once more that the battle against insurgency will be won.
