Michael Sam made history as the first openly gay football player to be drafted to the NFL when the St. Louis Rams took interest in his career, but the victory might have been short-lived.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old football star was just cut by the Rams. According to the latest, he didn’t make it through the final cuts during the team’s pre-season rounds.
Reportedly, there is still a chance for Sam to play in the NFL, as he could easily get picked up by another team before the season officially kicks off.
Michael tweeted about the cut, and thanked the Rams for the opportunity:
I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to (1/2)

show I can play at this level. I look forward to continuing to build on the progress I made here toward a long and successful career (2/2)

The most worthwhile things in life rarely come easy, this is a lesson I’ve always known. The journey continues.

While he waits to see what will happen to his career in the NFL, his boyfriend is supporting him in the meantime and even tweeted an adorable photo of the two of them just after the news broke.
The happy couple is seen showing off their pearly whites for the camera, proving that they are still smiling through all of the hardship.
