Must read

MINNA, Nigeria — Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has dissolved his cabinet, his office announced on Monday, September 1, 2025, marking the second time since taking office that he has dismissed top political appointees.

The decision was announced during a state executive council meeting at the council chamber in Minna, according to a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, Bago’s chief press secretary.

No reasons were given for the dissolution.

Ibrahim said the governor, who is often referred to as the “farmer governor,” retained the secretary to the state government, his chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, and other principal officers in his office.

“The farmer governor announced the decision during the State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber, Minna,” the statement read.

“He appreciated them for the services they had so far rendered towards the development of the state and wished them the best in their future endeavours.”

This is not the first time Bago has carried out a wide-ranging shake-up.

In July 2023, shortly after assuming office, he terminated the appointments of all political officeholders who had been appointed before Monday, May 29, 2023.

He also dissolved statutory commissions, boards, and parastatals across the state.

The governor is expected to announce new appointments in the coming weeks as part of a broader restructuring of his administration.
