ABUJA, Nigeria — Citizens of Nigeria and Saint Kitts and Nevis can now travel between both countries without visas for stays of up to 90 days, under a new reciprocal agreement that came into effect on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) confirmed the arrangement on Sunday, September 28, 2025, with spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi saying that the agreement had been finalised and implemented following bilateral discussions earlier this year.
The visa waiver follows engagements between President Bola Tinubu and Saint Kitts’ Prime Minister Terrance Drew during the Caribbean leader’s visit to Abuja.
The discussions were reinforced when both men met again in June during Tinubu’s state visit to Saint Lucia.
That trip marked the beginning of formal diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Saint Lucia and laid the groundwork for broader cooperation with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
During a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s senate and house of assembly, Tinubu had announced Nigeria’s readiness to explore a visa waiver for holders of diplomatic and official passports across the OECS, which comprises Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The agreement with Saint Kitts and Nevis represents the first tangible outcome of that pledge.
Nigerian officials say the move is intended to deepen Africa–Caribbean ties, expand trade and tourism, and promote cultural exchange.
Following Tinubu’s announcement in June, Nigeria deployed technical experts to support cooperation programmes with OECS member states — a gesture the government described as a model for Africa–Caribbean collaboration.
