ABUJA, Nigeria — Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has called for the rehabilitation of his wife, actress Regina Daniels, citing concerns over alleged drug abuse and her declining mental and physical health.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, November 9, 2025, Nwoko said recent toxicology reports revealed what he described as “high levels of harmful substances” in Daniels’ system, prompting fears for her safety and their children’s welfare.
“I want her alive and healthy, not just for me, but for our children,” Nwoko said.
“We have two young kids together, and they cannot fight for themselves, so I’m going to fight for them by safeguarding their mother.”
The lawmaker said he had endured months of emotional distress watching his wife’s alleged struggle with substance dependence, claiming she had suffered multiple health emergencies linked to overdose.
“Many people have died of drug overdose, and if anything happens to her now, what will I tell her children tomorrow? I have lived with this problem for eight months, and on three occasions, I had to carry her to Nizamiye Hospital unconscious from a drug overdose — you can go verify it,” he said.
Nwoko insisted that rehabilitation was not punitive but necessary to protect Daniels’ well-being and provide a stable environment for their children.
He presented what he said were laboratory reports indicating the presence of several toxic substances.
“Anybody discouraging her from seeking proper medical care is her real enemy and that of her children,” he said.
“That is why I am saying that everybody has to calm down and join hands to save her. But she and her mother are living in denial.”
The senator accused Daniels’ close friends and family members, particularly her brother, of enabling her alleged addiction by supplying drugs despite efforts to help her recover.
“Her close relations and friends that I trusted around her are the ones exploiting her resources to supply her with drugs, leaving her addicted,” Nwoko said.
“Imagine the pain of a husband trying to help his wife recover from an addiction, only to have the process sabotaged by her siblings and friends.”
The controversy marks the latest escalation in the couple’s highly publicised marital crisis, which began in October after a video showing Daniels crying and accusing Nwoko of domestic abuse went viral.
The senator has denied those claims, alleging instead that his wife’s erratic behaviour stems from drug and alcohol dependence.
Earlier, Daniels responded publicly, admitting to using hard drugs but accusing Nwoko of introducing her to them and using her dependence as a tool for manipulation and control.
She also alleged that the lawmaker possesses her private sex tape — a claim Nwoko has not addressed directly.
The conflict has drawn widespread attention on social media, where supporters of both parties have traded accusations over the state of their marriage.
Daniels’ mother, Rita Daniels, had earlier dismissed Nwoko’s drug abuse allegations as “baseless,” claiming the senator was attempting to discredit her daughter.
She also accused him of covering up the death of his son in the United Kingdom — an assertion Nwoko labelled “an inhuman attack on the dead.”
“The autopsy results did not show drug-related complications as the cause of death,” he said.
As tensions between the couple escalate, Nwoko maintained that his priority remains his wife’s recovery.
“If they really want to prove me wrong, let them arrange for her to visit any toxicologist of their choice — I will pay,” he said.
