Pastor Adefarasin Granted Bail After Police Confirm Object in Viral Video Was Stun Gun

LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, was holding a stun gun — not a lethal firearm — in the now-viral video that led to public outrage earlier this month.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Command, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that Adefarasin had turned himself in on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, for questioning following the circulation of a video that appeared to show him pointing a gun-like object at a road user while driving in Lagos.

“He is currently being interrogated by detectives, who have commenced investigation on the case since the video surfaced online,” Hundeyin said on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

In the footage, Adefarasin was seen rolling down the tinted window of a black Range Rover and pointing the object at a content creator — widely believed to be a TikToker known for filming luxury cars — before driving off.

The clip triggered intense public criticism, with many accusing the pastor of brandishing a firearm in public.

Adefarasin responded via his official social media platforms, denying the allegations.

He insisted that the object in question was not a firearm and that he did not threaten or point it at anyone.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the police clarified the nature of the object, stating: “What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun, which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment.”

A stun gun is a handheld, battery-powered device used for self-defence.

It delivers a high-voltage, low-current shock designed to temporarily incapacitate a target by causing pain and muscle contractions.

Though considered non-lethal, it is capable of inflicting injury and is subject to regulation in many jurisdictions.

The police said Adefarasin was cooperative during the interrogation and gave a cautionary statement to investigators.

He has since been granted bail while investigations continue.

“No one is above the law,” CSP Hundeyin reiterated, assuring the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made public once concluded.
