PDP BoT Dismisses Samuel Anyanwu’s Signature Forgery Claims

Must read

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected allegations of forgery and signature cloning made by the party’s national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, describing them as “baseless, misleading, and reprehensible.”

In letters dated October 15, 2025, Anyanwu alleged that his signature was forged on correspondence purportedly sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025.

He claimed the letters, which detailed arrangements for the convention, were dispatched without his consent or authorisation.

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter,” Anyanwu wrote, calling on INEC, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate and prosecute those responsible.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the PDP BoT, said the accusation was not only false but also damaging to the integrity of the party’s leadership.

“While the BoT would have preferred to refrain from engaging in matters of internal administrative procedure in the public domain, the gravity of this allegation and its capacity to mislead party members and the general public necessitate a clear and factual clarification,” Wabara said.

According to him, the notification letter to INEC was duly signed by PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum and Anyanwu during the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on Monday, August 25, 2025.

The signing, he added, was witnessed by key party stakeholders, including members of the governors’ forum, the BoT, and other NEC officials.

Wabara further stated that Anyanwu co-signed several official communications as secretary of the sub-committee on contact and mobilisation for the convention.

These included letters of appointment issued to committee members and a separate correspondence seeking financial approval for the sub-committee’s inaugural meeting.

“These verifiable correspondences, bearing his signature, are in the custody of the party and relevant convention committees,” Wabara said.

“In view of these incontrovertible facts, the BoT finds Senator Anyanwu’s claim of forgery to be baseless, misleading, and, to say the least, reprehensible.”

Wabara warned that Anyanwu’s allegations appeared to be “a deliberate attempt to cast aspersions on the integrity of the party’s leadership and processes and to misinform security agencies and the general public.”

He maintained that the PDP remains “cohesive, resolute, and unwavering” in its commitment to transparency and internal harmony.

“The forthcoming PDP elective national convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State, will be credible and unifying,” Wabara added, urging members to disregard Anyanwu’s claims and remain loyal to the party.
