OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Osun State Police Command says eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged mutilation of a 16-year-old boy’s scrotum in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said in a statement on Monday that the arrests followed a Saturday, July 26, 2025 incident in which the victim was attacked in a bush.

According to Ojelabi, three suspects from Apomu had gone to farm in the Arademi area of Ikire when two of them lured the boy to a secluded spot.

“They allegedly cut the boy’s abdomen in an attempt to remove vital organs, but ended up taking only his scrotum before fleeing when he cried for help,” he said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for initial treatment before being referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Ojelabi said police investigations led to the arrest of eight people linked to the attack.

He also disclosed that, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, two suspected cult members operating at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, were apprehended in front of the campus.

Other July arrests included a suspect who robbed a victim of an iPhone 11 in Osogbo, another caught with a cut-to-size gun during a motorcycle stop in Ede, and a man who allegedly stole a motorcycle from a mosque.

All suspects will face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations, Ojelabi said.
