IBADAN, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has come under public scrutiny after a video surfaced showing him in a multi-million-naira mansion in Ibadan, Oyo State, entertaining supporters.
The video, which went viral on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, shows Adelabu moving through the expansive, white-finished property, furnished with luxury fittings.
It emerges as the minister oversees a power sector grappling with chronic underperformance, financial distress and infrastructure decay.
Nigeria’s electricity industry continues to face a liquidity crisis, frequent grid collapses, tariff disputes and ageing equipment.
Adelabu has said the federal government owes electricity generation companies legacy debts of N4 trillion as of the end of 2024.
According to a June 2025 World Bank report, Tracking Sustainable Development Goal 7: The Energy Progress Report 2025, Nigeria has the largest number of people without access to electricity globally, with 86.8 million citizens living off the grid.
The release of the footage has fuelled debate about political priorities and leadership optics in a country where erratic power supply continues to hinder economic growth and daily life.
Adelabu has not publicly responded to the video.
EFCC WILL NEVER WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE THEM BLIND:
