President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has sent a congratulatory message to Osun state governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola over his victory in the just concluded election in his state.
The incumbent governor who emerged victorious in the Saturday, August 9, 2014 elections as a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner ahead of Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
President Jonathan, who incidentally is a member of the PDP in a press statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity dated on Sunday, August 10, 2014 commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of an election he described as free, fair, credible and peaceful. While commending security agencies for making sure there was no distortion in law and order.
The president also reserves special praise for the people of the state who came out in their numbers to exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful manner while pledging to ensure their safety and the fidelity of their votes, while believing that the peaceful conduct of the election will go a long way to show that his administration is dedicated to fulfilling its promise of reforming the country’s electoral system positively.
He also explained that the outcome of the election has also affirmed that the news being peddled that the measures put in place were political in nature and designed to help his party PDP win the elections were “false, unfair and uncharitable”.
President Jonathan also looks forward to maintaining a cordial working relationship with governor Rauf Aregbesola as he begins his 2nd term as he would other state governors for the overall betterment of the livings standards of Nigerians in all states of the federation.
In conclusion, President Jonathan wishes governor Rauf Aregbesola a successful second term in good health.
