President Jonathan Campaigns In Kano, Pledges To Revive Commerce And Industry

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 took his re-election campaign team to the ancient city of Kano as part of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) nationwide presidential rallies, promising to restore the commerce and industry sector of the state’s economy.

Other notable party stalwarts who were at the rally included Vice President Namadi Sambo, Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former Kano State Governor and current Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu amongst others.

Addressing the mammoth crowd in Hausa, Vice President Sambo talked about the current war on terror, restating that President Jonathan was not an enemy of the North and Muslims considering the number of major members of his administration which were Muslim Northerners.

He said: “The opposition party is going about saying that this government is sponsoring Boko Haram, yet this is not true. This government has been working so hard to stop Boko Haram.

“They say Jonathan is against Muslims, but so many officals in this government are Muslims. The head of Customs is a Muslim; I am a Muslim; your former governor, Shekarau, is the minister of education. He is a Muslim.”

In his address, Mu’azu assured President Jonathan of the ardent support the people of Kano have for him, using the gigantic crowd at the rally ground as an example of his popularity in the state.
The PDP Chairman said: “I want you to know, Mr. President, that PDP is on ground in Kano. You can see the crowd. You should have your confidence back. It is a lie that the people of the north are not with you.

“From the crowd you see here, I can assure you on behalf of the people of Kano state, that you have won this election.”

President Jonathan, while speaking to the teeming crowd congratulated the people of the city for successfully installing a new Emir following the death of long time Emir, Ado Bayero, pledging to create more jobs for the youths state.

In his words: “Let me use this opportunity to commiserate with you on the death of our emir, Ado Bayero, and also to congratulate you for successfully choosing his successor.
“Working with you, working with the incoming PDP government of Kano, we will continue to improve commerce and industry in Kano. We will continue to work to ensure that the young and the women and the men in Kano have jobs.
“We will continue working to ensure that Kano goes from strength to strength. Thank you very much”
