President Jonathan To Officially Declare For Re-Election November 11

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday, October 24, 2014 made it known that he will formally declare for re-eletion as Nigerian president on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

The announcement was made by Haliru Bello Mohammed, the chairman of the declaration committee. he availed that Jerry Gana, a former minister of information will serve as the head of the fund raising committee for a fundraising dinner to be held the same day as the declaration.

The re-election declaration committee held its first meeting on Friday, October 24, 2014 in Aso Rock, Abuja with five governors – Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe, Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Theodore Orji of Abia, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo and Ibrahim Shema of Katsina – in attendance.

The committee also set up various sub-committees to make for a smooth campaign, the include those for venue and decoration, secretariat, media and publicity, security, protocol and mobilisation.

Mohammed, briefing journalists after the meeting said: “It is our honest hope that he will come out and say yes to the demand of a multitude of Nigerians.We will wait for him to speak. The date we have fixed is November 11. On that day there will be a forum for the president to meet Nigerians to announce his decision. If he says yes, it will be yes. If he says no, it is negative.”

He further stated that the Peoples democratic Party (PDP) has given the President’s performance so far a pass mark, adding that “It is only when he declines that we can look at other candidates.”
