President Jonathan Urges Ambassadors To Correct Misconceptions About Nigeria

Must read

President Goodluck Jonathan has urged foreign ambassadors serving in Nigeria to do their best to convey the positive realities of the country to the world.

This admonition was given today January 6 2014, to an audience comprising the outgoing Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Roberto Colamine and others.

President Jonathan said that by doing so, the envoys will help immensely in correcting current misconceptions and adverse misrepresentations of Nigeria in the international community.

“The knowledge you have acquired here should be used positively to help us as you go back home,” the President told the ambassador.

President Jonathan commended Mr. Colamine for his untiring efforts to strengthen and expand areas of bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Italy during his tenure in Nigeria.

He particularly praised the ambassador’s facilitation of the training of some ex-Niger Delta militants in Italy as part of the Amnesty Programme, which, he said, had helped to restore relative peace and security to the region.

Mr. Colamine told President Jonathan that he had witnessed challenging political transitions in the country during his more than four-year tenure, but was glad to see the issues constitutionally resolved.   The Ambassador also commended President Jonathan for Nigeria’s continuing leadership role in Africa as well as its efforts to promote peace, political stability and democracy in all parts of the continent.
