ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has announced a series of key appointments to bolster Nigeria’s education sector, naming Idris Olorunnimbe as the new Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) board.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Olorunnimbe, a seasoned leader with a track record in innovative education and youth empowerment initiatives, is expected to bring his wealth of experience to the role.

As the Group CEO of The Temple Company, a firm he founded in 2016, he has spearheaded projects spanning education and entertainment.

He also previously served on the board of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), where he chaired the stakeholder and governance committees for employment and entrepreneurship programmes.

“Olorunnimbe brings years of experience in innovative leadership and commitment to youth empowerment and education,” Onanuga said in a statement.

The President also appointed Rasaq Olajuwon as UBEC’s Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) and Tunde Ajibulu as Deputy Executive Secretary (Services).

Olajuwon was previously the Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) while Ajibulu is a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and has held leadership roles at Tangent Construction Nigeria Limited and Covenant Consultancy Services.

In a separate appointment, President Tinubu named Dr. Mohammed Aminu as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

Aminu, who holds a Ph.D. in Automobile Technology and a Master’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, brings 28 years of experience in teaching, administration, research, and policy development to the role.

Prior to his appointment, he served as Director of Procurement at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

President Tinubu urged Aminu to leverage his extensive experience to drive transformational leadership at NABTEB.

The appointments are seen as part of the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system and address critical challenges in basic and technical education.

The new appointees are expected to assume their roles immediately, with a mandate to implement reforms that align with the Tinubu administration’s vision for a more robust and inclusive education sector.
