LAGOS, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu on Saturday, June 7, 2025, received a stream of high-profile guests at his Lagos residence as part of visits marking the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Among the visitors was James Ibori, former governor of Delta State, whose presence drew particular attention given his controversial political past.
Ibori, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, was convicted of money laundering charges in the United Kingdom in 2012 but remains an influential figure within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Also received by the president was Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and a long-time political ally of the president.
Billionaire industrialist Chief Razak Okoya, along with his wife, Shade Okoya, and their son, Raheem Okoya, were also welcomed at the president’s Lagos residence.
The president has been in Lagos since Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and has used the visit to engage in both diplomatic and ceremonial engagements.
Notably, he presided over the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and commissioned several infrastructure projects in the state.
President Tinubu is expected to return to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the conclusion of the Eid festivities.
