A woman identified as a nurse in her 4os and three children under the age of 12 were reportedly shot dead on a property near Lockhart, west of Wagga Wagga in southern New South Wales.
Police are currently searching for a man also in his 40s, who they believe is connected to the case as he lives in the building.
Officers have however set up a crime scene at the property which would be examined by specialist police overnight.
They were called to the scene around 3:00pm and will continue to search the property tonight.
A post mortem would be carried out to know the actual cause of the victims death.
