LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory for motorists ahead of the 50th anniversary summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), scheduled to take place from May 27 to 29 in Victoria Island.
In a statement released on Monday, May 26, 2025, Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, announced a series of strategic diversions around the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and Eko Hotel & Suites — the key venues for the high-level summit.
The advisory is aimed at ensuring seamless movement around the summit areas and boosting security for the visiting dignitaries.
Alternative Routes for Motorists:
-
Eko Hotel Roundabout to Lagos Island/Mainland:
Motorists are advised to take Adetokunbo Ademola Road to connect the Civic Centre, then proceed via Ozumba Mbadiwe Road straight to Bonny Camp Roundabout. From there, they can turn right toward Lagos Island or the Mainland. -
Via Falomo Ramp:
Drivers may alternatively access Lagos Island or the Mainland via the Falomo Ramp located near the Nigerian Law School. -
From Ajose Adeogun or Adetokunbo Ademola:
Vehicles exiting these areas through Eko Hotel Roundabout should use Sanusi Fafunwa Street, then link Akin Adesola Road. A left turn at the junction provides access to Ahmadu Bello Way or Adeola Odeku; a right turn leads to Falomo Bridge or the Law School route. -
Lagos Continental Hotel to Bonny Camp:
Motorists should use Kofo Abayomi Road to connect Kilimanjaro Junction on Ozumba Mbadiwe. From there, they may turn left to Bonny Camp or right toward Lekki. -
Approaching Kofo Abayomi from Bonny Camp:
Use Ozumba Mbadiwe and make a right turn at Kilimanjaro Junction to reach Lagos Continental Hotel. -
From Independence or McEwen Bridge to Eko Hotel:
Turn left at the IMB Building on Ahmadu Bello Way by Atlantic City. Then connect Akin Adesola Road and navigate through inner streets to access the Eko Hotel area.
Mrs Ogunlola assured that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to key junctions and routes to assist motorists and minimise disruptions.
The ECOWAS summit is expected to attract regional leaders, diplomats, and high-level officials, with Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Head of State Yakubu Gowon among the keynote speakers.
Lagos residents have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and adhere to all traffic instructions throughout the summit period.
