‘Say Amen to APC’s Growth’: Gbajabiamila Tests Governor Adeleke’s Loyalty in Playful Exchange

OSOGBO, Nigeria — Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will continue to grow stronger through the efforts of its members.

He made the remark during a courtesy visit to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State at the government house in Osogbo.

While addressing the governor, Gbajabiamila offered a light-hearted prayer for the strengthening of the APC, prompting a humorous exchange.

“I want to say a prayer, and I want to hear your very powerful Amen,” Gbajabiamila said.

“By virtue of your work, APC will continue to get stronger. Say Amen.”

Turning to Governor Adeleke, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbajabiamila added, “Your Excellency, I didn’t hear your Amen.”

Adeleke responded in a friendly tone, “Amen, we are all together.” Gbajabiamila replied with a laugh, “That’s the point: we are all together.”

Gbajabiamila had earlier commended Adeleke and his executive team for their performance in governing the state.

Speaking before delivering the first annual lecture of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), he praised the governor for prioritising governance over politics and working collaboratively with the federal government.

“I must say you and members of your team are doing a phenomenal job in the state and on the national pedestal,” he said.

He also highlighted Osun State’s contributions to national development, noting that some of its finest politicians have been sent to the national assembly.

He specifically praised Bamidele Salam, chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, for helping the APC-led federal government to plug financial leakages and curb corruption.

Gbajabiamila thanked Adeleke for the warm hospitality extended to him and his entourage during the visit.

His comments come just weeks after Adeleke dismissed speculations about a possible defection to the APC, assuring PDP leaders at a strategic meeting on May 1 that he remained committed to the party.

“My people, party elders and chiefs, I declare before you today that I am not defecting to APC or any other political party,” Adeleke had said.
