LAGOS, Nigeria — Popular media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has set social media abuzz after revealing she is expecting a child, unveiling her baby bump in a post that has since dominated online conversations.

While many fans and colleagues flooded her page with congratulatory messages, the news also triggered intense speculation about the identity of the child’s father.

Makinwa, who is neither married nor publicly known to be in a relationship, became the subject of a wave of comments questioning her pregnancy.

Controversial social media commentator Uche Maduagwu asked pointedly: “Toke, who gives you belle? Na married man or single, let’s know abeg.”

Some also raised doubts about the authenticity of her pregnancy, with a user remarking: “Why do I feel it’s artificial and low key a surrogate? … Congratulations to her.” Another suggested it could be “AI at work … our aunty don go hire surrogacy.”

Makinwa has previously spoken candidly about her views on relationships, feminism, and family.

In a past Instagram Q&A session, she said she wanted to remarry so that her child could “have what she never had,” while stressing that her partner must be able to meet her needs, even if not wealthy.

These earlier comments appeared to fuel further debate online, with some critics mocking her feminist stance.

One commenter wrote, “Feminist don get belle o,” while another added, “So u dey … man abi na IVF, anyway happy single mother journey to u.”

The pregnancy announcement has also revived rumours from her 40th birthday celebration, when pictures of her in a white outfit and veil sparked speculation that she had secretly married businessman Farouk Umar.

Makinwa later clarified that the outfit was for her thanksgiving service, adding that Umar was simply her best friend and not a romantic partner.

Despite the speculation, many fans expressed genuine happiness for the media star.

Messages of support poured in from colleagues in the entertainment industry and fans who described the news as “a blessing.”

Makinwa, known for her unapologetic persona and high standards, has yet to directly address the swirling rumours about her child’s paternity.
