Spirit And Life Devotional: Fishers Of Men

Must read

Matthew 4:19 NKJV “Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”

It’s election period in Nigeria. In the last few months, we’ve seen not just the politicians campaign, we’ve seen average Nigerians participate actively in the process. Nearly every adult is involved; people are debating, arguing passionately and trying to woo others to support their preferred candidates. The thought on my mind most times is what would happen if nearly every believer is as active and passionate about getting the lost to “vote” for Jesus and make Him Lord of their lives.

One of the first things He did when He began His ministry was to recruit men who would work for and with Him to win the lost. It’s worthy of note that He called them to be fishers of men and not anything else. A very important reminder to all of us that soul winning is God’s number one job. We might be involved in many other wonderful assignments in the kingdom, but we are not fulfilling our most important duty if we are not engaged in fishing men to salvation.

Just before He left the earth, Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Have you ever gone out to make disciples? Are you still going today? Will you ever go out there and give someone the opportunity to be saved?
