Spirit And Life Devotional: Praying For Our Leaders

Must read

Acts 23:4-5 ERV “The men standing near Paul said to him, “Are you sure you want to insult God’s high priest like that?”   Paul said, “Brothers, I did not know this man was the high priest. The Scriptures say, ‘You must not say bad things about a leader of your people.’”

Paul was being tried and after his first statement, the high priest asked men standing close to him to slap him. In anger Paul insulted the high priest. But he did not know the man was the high priest. He apologized immediately he knew, even though the high priest had done something unscriptural.

When David had the opportunity to kill King Saul, he didn’t, instead he cut a corner of Saul’s robe. And he still felt bad about doing that! 1 Samuel 24:5-6 NLT says “But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul’s robe. He said to his men, “The lord forbid that I should do this to my lord the king. I shouldn’t attack the lord’s anointed one, for the lord himself has chosen him.”

But we have Christians attacking leaders verbally without any remorse! That’s so wrong and ungodly! Your spiritual stature, political party, your ideologies, and your justifications don’t matter, what pleases God is us praying for our leaders and all in authority (1 Timothy 2:2-3). We’ve got to stop attacking our leaders even when they are wrong; the king’s heart is in God’s hand and God can direct it in the right direction if we continue to pray.
