LOS ANGELES, United States — The actor Kiefer Sutherland, a film and television star since the 1980s, was arrested early Monday, January 12, 2025, in Hollywood after he was accused of assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Mr Sutherland, 59, was arrested near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue after officers responded to a report of an assault at about 12:15 a.m., according to Officer Kevin Terzes, a department spokesperson, who described the incident in an email on Tuesday.
“The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim,” Officer Terzes said.
The driver did not suffer injuries requiring medical treatment at the scene, Officer Terzes said, adding that the investigation remained ongoing.
Mr. Sutherland was booked into jail shortly after 4 a.m. on an unspecified felony charge, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
Bail was set at $50,000, and he was released on bond about seven hours later, the records showed. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.
Representatives for Mr Sutherland did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Tuesday night.
Mr. Sutherland rose to prominence in the 1980s with roles that established him as a leading actor and later gained broader recognition on television in the 2000s with the series “24.”
He is the son of the late actor Donald Sutherland.
