3 Docked For Stealing Bags Of Rice Worth N9.5 Million

NAN – Three middle-aged men were on Wednesday arraigned in a Kano State Magistrate Court sitting at Nomans Land for alleged criminal conspiracy and unlawful seizure.

The accused – Salisu Rabe, Muhabik Garba and Garba Musa are standing trial on two counts of criminal conspiracy and unlawful seizure.

According to the First Information Report, the offence ran contrary to Section 97 of the Penal Code.

It stated that sometimes in July 2014, the complaints Ibrahim Bala of Kofar Na’isa, Kano, Abdulrazak Ya’u and Buhari Abbas of Katsina, went to Cotonou and bought 3,440 bags of rice valued at N20.7m.

It said on their way to Nigeria, two trucks carrying 1,580 bags of rice valued at N9.5m were diverted by the accused and they converted same to their personal use.

The accused, however, denied the allegations leveled against them.

Senior Magistrate Hassan Ahmed granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.

He further ordered that one of the sureties must be a landed property owner within Kano metropolis and covered by Certificate of Occupancy, while the second should be blood relation to the accused persons.

He adjourned the case to Oct. 15 for further hearing.
