JUPITER ISLAND, United States — Tiger Woods has been released on bail after his arrest on charges including driving under the influence following a car crash in Florida, authorities said.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Woods, 50, faces additional charges of property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
The incident occurred on Friday, March 27, 2026, on Beach Road in Jupiter Island.

Details of the Crash and Arrest
According to Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods was driving a Land Rover when he clipped a truck and rolled his vehicle after attempting to overtake at what officials described as a high rate of speed.
Budensiek said officers at the scene did not suspect alcohol impairment. Woods passed a breathalyser test, recording “triple zeros,” but later refused to take a urine test.
“He has a right to refuse that test,” Budensiek said. “There is a statute which he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.”
Investigators said Woods “did exemplify signs of impairment” and conducted roadside assessments before placing him under arrest. He was described as co-operative.
No injuries were reported. Woods exited the vehicle by crawling through the passenger door, authorities said.

Custody and Charges
Woods was held for eight hours, the minimum period required under state law, before being released on bail.
The charges against him are misdemeanours.
The sheriff said investigators were considering the possibility of impairment by an unknown substance, noting Woods’s history of injuries and surgeries.
Response From Officials
Donald Trump commented on the incident, saying: “I feel so badly. He has got some difficulty. There was an accident. That’s all I know.”
“He’s a very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person – an amazing man,” he added.

Previous Incidents and Health Challenges
Woods has faced several prior incidents involving driving and health issues. In 2017, he was arrested in Florida and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving after a toxicology report found medications in his system.
In 2021, he sustained serious injuries in a separate rollover crash in California.
More recently, Woods has been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2025 and back surgery later that year.
He returned to competitive play this week in the finals of an indoor golf league.
Woods has not publicly commented on the latest charges.
