ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honours on Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

During a ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, July 28, 2025, Tinubu announced the conferment of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award on all 24 players and members of the technical crew, hailing their “resilience, sportsmanship, and the never-say-die Nigerian spirit.”

The president also gifted each player the naira equivalent of $100,000, and $50,000 to each member of the coaching staff.

In addition, every player and official will receive a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate, located in the Federal Capital Territory.

“You have not only lifted a trophy—you have lifted the spirit of the nation,” Tinubu told the jubilant team.

“Your victory is a source of pride for all Nigerians, and you have etched your names in gold.”

The Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback in the WAFCON final on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, defeating host nation Morocco 3–2 after trailing by two goals.

Goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini secured Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title.

Also present at the reception were senior government officials, football administrators, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) added to the celebrations by pledging N10 million each to the players.
