YOKOHAMA, Japan — President Bola Tinubu has departed Yokohama, Japan, for a state visit to Brazil, the Presidency confirmed on Friday, August 22, 2025.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu left Japan on Thursday night and is scheduled to make a stopover in Los Angeles, United States, before continuing to Brasília, Brazil’s capital.
His official engagements in Brazil will begin on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on Friday, August 15, 2025, with an initial stopover in Dubai, UAE, before arriving in Yokohama on Monday, August 18, 2025.
While in Japan, he attended the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), a summit initiated by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission, and the World Bank.
This year’s TICAD, themed around “Africa’s Economic Transformation”, placed emphasis on:

Onanuga said Tinubu also held bilateral meetings with Japanese officials and interacted with Nigerians residing in Japan, highlighting opportunities for deeper economic cooperation and community engagement.
