ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has met with the newly appointed service chiefs at the State House in Abuja, on Monday, October 27, 2025, following a major shake-up of Nigeria’s military leadership announced last week.
On Friday, October 24, 2025, the president dismissed the former service chiefs in what is seen as a sweeping reorganisation of the nation’s defence command structure.
Under the new appointments, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has been named Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.
Before his elevation, Oluyede served as the Chief of Army Staff.
Major General Waidi Shaibu now assumes the role of Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke has been appointed as the Chief of Air Staff.
In the navy, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas replaces the outgoing naval chief, and Major General Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
This marks the second major military reshuffle under President Tinubu’s administration since he took office in May 2023.
The reorganisation follows weeks of speculation about internal unease within the armed forces, including unconfirmed reports of a botched coup plot — a claim the military authorities have firmly denied.
Sources at the Presidency said today’s meeting is expected to focus on operational strategy, national security priorities, and the president’s ongoing efforts to modernise the armed forces.
