ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, for a two-nation trip to South Africa and Angola, where he will attend two major international summits focused on global economic cooperation, development, and regional security.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the trip in a statement on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, detailing Tinubu’s engagements over the six-day visit.
Tinubu’s first stop will be Johannesburg, where he is scheduled to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit taking place from 22 to 23 November at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
The summit, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, will bring together leaders of major global economies, alongside representatives from the European Union, African Union and international financial institutions.
Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20, extended the official invitation to Tinubu, while Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had invited him to the 2024 edition held in Rio de Janeiro.
This year’s summit is themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.”
It will feature three plenary sessions on inclusive and sustainable growth, global economic resilience, disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and the future of artificial intelligence.
According to the presidency, Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening regional peace, security and economic development.
Following the G20 engagements, Tinubu will travel to Luanda for the 7th African Union–European Union Summit scheduled for 24 to 25 November.
The meeting will convene African and European leaders, young innovators and civil society organisations to address shared priorities between the two unions.
Key discussion areas for the AU–EU summit include climate action, inclusive development, manufacturing, digital transformation, infrastructure, agribusiness and the creative sector.
Participants are also expected to present recommendations aimed at deepening cooperation between Africa and Europe.
Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake; Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole; and Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
