Top 10 Signs You’re NOT READY To Commit

Must read

So, everyone around you is either in a relationship or married, and being the only one who’s single you’re pressured into getting involved with someone. Problem is, you’re not quite sure if this is really what you want.

One of the most difficult things to do when you’re single is to admit that you are in fact, not ready for a relationship. Sure everyone deserves a chance to experience love, but more often than not, it’s better to wait until you’ve got your life and emotions in check before committing yourself to another person.

Looking for love? We’ve got some pointers to help you out. Read the following list to see if you are ready to commit.

1. You’re not over your ex.

Rebound relationships are a big no, no! There are two reasons as to why this is unwise and the first is, it’s not fair to the guy. It’s wrong to use somebody who might actually like you as a cushion for heartbreak. The second reason is outright plain and simple — the ghost of your ex will always be hanging over the relationship. Instead of starting anew, you’re most likely to take out the issues you had with your ex on your new guy – or worse, you’ll compare him to your ex and evaluate him based on how your ex treated you.

2. Wandering eyes and hands.

In order to be in a committed relationship, one must be willing to settle down with one and only one partner. If you find yourself enjoying the attention given to you by other men, or if you find yourself fantasising about having sexual relations with more than one partner, then chances are you are not ready to commit.

3. You’re Emotionally Unavailable

The idea of being with someone excites you, but you’re not overly concerned with falling in love and more often than not, you close off your heart because you fear getting hurt. To be in a relationship and to really experience what it’s like, you’re going to have to learn to be vulnerable so you can share your hopes, fears and dreams with another person.

4. You don’t know what you want.

You want to be with somebody, but you’re not sure how you feel about exclusivity. You’re hesitant about marriage, you don’t see yourself ever settling down but at the same time you can’t decide if you want to date casually or have a friends-with-benefits relationship. If this is you, chances are you’re not ready to commit.

5. You’re too independent.

There’s a very fine line between independence and selfishness. If you’re someone who always insists on having things done your way, who doesn’t find the need to inform anyone about your whereabouts and who loves being the centre of attention at all social gatherings, then you’re probably just not quite ready to be with someone. Unless you’re ready to be considerate of your future boyfriend’s feelings, to inform him of your whereabouts and to share the spotlight with him, you’re best being single for now.

6. You’re going through major changes in your life.

If you’ve just gotten a new job, recovered from a major illness or if you’re dealing with some sort of major change in your life, hold off relationships. Young relationships tend to not be able to withstand the ups and downs of the transition.

7. You’re happy with your life.

Despite dipping your toes into the dating pool, you just simply don’t want a boyfriend. Sure you enjoy the benefits you get from a relationship — sex, companionship and so forth, but it’s only an option to you. You enjoy it but you don’t need nor do you want it and you’re genuinely happy with the way things are in your life.

8. The One

You’re still in search for the one. If you’re the type of person who’s very guarded with her feelings and careful with who you’re going to give your heart to then you’re going to keep dating till you find the one perfect man.

9. Career Driven

Career comes first, that’s the motto you live by. If all you can think about is work and if you’d rather spend time working on building your career instead of a relationship, you are definitely not ready to commit. Committing to a man would require you making your relationship a priority and if you’re more interested in getting ahead at your job, put off making a serious commitment to someone.

10. You spend more time with your girl friends

If you rather hang out and spend time with you girl friends rather than a guy you’re casually seeing, then you’re not a woman looking for commitment, you’re a woman looking for freedom.

There’s no hurry and need to commit. If any of these signs matches your personality or defines who you are, then take your time. Explore and live your life and somewhere along the way, your perfect man will come along.
