Trump Rules Out Reconciliation with Musk, Cites ‘Disrespect’ to Presidency

Must read

WASHINGTON, USA — U.S. President Donald Trump has said he has no intention of repairing his fractured relationship with Elon Musk, declaring the tech billionaire “disrespectful to the office of the president” following a public spat between the two former allies.

In a phone interview with NBC News on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Trump confirmed that he no longer has any interest in engaging with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.

“I would assume so, yeah,” he said when asked if the relationship was over.

When pressed further on whether he would consider reconciliation, he responded flatly, “No.”

“I’m too busy doing other things,” Trump added. “I have no intention of speaking to him. I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president.”

Tensions between the two men have escalated over the past week after Musk publicly criticised Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping tax and spending package that recently passed the House and is currently under debate in the Senate.

Musk took to his platform, X, to denounce the bill as economically reckless, warning it would trigger a recession.

In a now-deleted series of posts, he also backed calls for Trump’s impeachment, accused the president of ingratitude, and claimed Trump was listed in files related to Jeffrey Epstein — allegations Trump dismissed as “old news”.

“Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it,” the president said in response to the claims.

The public fallout began shortly after Musk resigned from his advisory role in Trump’s administration, officially citing the completion of a contract.

Trump, however, claimed he had asked Musk to leave because he was “wearing thin”.

The feud has now spilled into political and financial threats.

Trump warned there would be “serious consequences” if Musk finances Democratic candidates to oppose Republicans supporting the bill — though he did not elaborate on what those consequences might be.

As part of the fallout, Trump said he would cancel federal contracts currently held by Musk’s companies.

He later clarified to NBC that the idea was under consideration but had not been finalised.

“I haven’t given it much thought,” he said.

The president also revealed that allies have urged him to authorise investigations into Musk’s business dealings and immigration history.

“Some people are calling for it,” he said, though he declined to say whether any formal inquiry would proceed.
