JOS, Nigeria — Nigerian security forces have recovered a vehicle belonging to a United Nations staff member abducted by unknown gunmen in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Emmanuel Yusuf Sabo, was reportedly kidnapped at around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, while returning home from work.
The incident occurred along Godwin Street in the State Low-Cost area of Jos North, prompting immediate concern among local residents and the international community.
According to security sources, Sabo’s younger brother, Ezekiel Sabo of Angwan Rukuba, reported the abduction to the police early on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
The Plateau State Police Command responded promptly, circulating details of the incident to all patrol teams and security checkpoints across the state.
At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025, a police stop-and-search team operating in Manguna, Bokkos LGA, intercepted the victim’s vehicle.
The driver—believed to be one of the abductors—abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushland upon sighting the security operatives.
The vehicle was successfully recovered and secured.
A coordinated search and rescue operation is now underway in the surrounding area to locate the missing UN official and apprehend the kidnappers.
Emmanuel Sabo is reported to be a staff member at the United Nations office in Jos, and his abduction has raised alarm among international agencies operating in the region.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the United Nations regarding the incident.
However, local and federal security forces are said to be working in coordination to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the victim.
