Former Nigeria Under-17 and Under-20 coach John Obuh, has pleaded that the Nigeria Football Association grants him the opportunity the coach the Super Eagles and that he deserves to be given a vital background role in the Super Eagles.
The Enugu Rangers stakeholder claims that his ample experience with some of the Super Eagles players at the eaglet level should be a plus for him to understand and manage them properly if he is being employed as a coach.
Speaking with the press on Monday, October 13, 2014 he stated that he has least 6 players in the Eagles squad that have played under him at various levels.
“If am in the set-up, I will advise and guide on their usage as I know their strengths and weaknesses, I am ready for the role if called up.”
When asked on how these players have been utilized in the senior team, he said that some of them are not utilized enough so the common familiarity of skill might have a role in their poor performance, he then cited Ramon Azeez as an instance.
“Ramon Azeez’s case is pathetic. He is such a good player but used wrongly, hence he failed to sparkle,” he added.
“Yes I admit he is played in the same role he has been used in at his club, but he is more defensive than offensive, if I was in the team I would have helped his cause.”
Obuh has coached a cross section of the Super Eagles at the teenage levels,some of which includes; Emem Eduok, Juwon Oshaniwa, Ejike Uzoenyi, Ramon Azeez and Ogenyi Onazi both club and youth level at various stages before their maturity into the Super Eagles.
