President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, January 26, 2015, revealed that more arms and military equipment will be shipped into the country this week to beef up moves to curb insurgent group, Boko Haram which has been terrorizing the North Eastern part of the country.
The President made the revelation while paying a courtesy visit to the Emir of Illorin, Ibrahim Gambari, as part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign which made a stop at the Kwara State capital, Illorin.
While making the assertion, President Jonathan further expressed confidence that the Nigerian military will make rapid gains in its war against terror in the next two weeks with the arrival of the aforementioned arms.
President Jonathan said: “You have observed us for the past four years. Yes, we have security challenges related to the Boko Haram saga mainly in the North-east although their excesses extend to some parts of the North like Abuja, Sokoto, Gombe and Kano. But it is mainly in the North-east. We are working hard and we shall surely bring it to a halt.
“As far as the military is concerned, even as we are talking, we are expecting more platforms this week and next week. I believe that in the next two weeks or so, we will be able to move faster than we are moving.
The President also spoke on the agricultural sector, stating that so far his administration has made major steps towards increasing the output from the sector, urging young graduates to take full advantage if the coming boom the sector will experience as he plans to take agriculture to the next level.
