Wike Orders Sealing of PDP Headquarters, 4,793 Other Properties in Abuja

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has directed that the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 4,793 other properties revoked by the FCT Administration be sealed from Monday, May 26, 2025.

The order was confirmed during a joint press briefing on Friday, May 23, 2025, by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister; Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration; and Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control.

The affected properties, spread across high-value districts including the Central Area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape, were revoked in March 2025.

According to Olayinka, the revocations were based on longstanding non-compliance with statutory development regulations and the reversion of ownership rights to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

“Ownership of the revoked 4,794 properties… has already reverted to the FCTA, and as from Monday, the government will begin to exercise its rights of ownership on the affected landed properties,” Olayinka said.

He clarified that the sealing exercise would proceed “without consideration as to ownership of the affected landed properties,” and would be carried out strictly in line with existing legal frameworks.

Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, affirmed that access to all affected properties would be restricted beginning Monday, while future decisions regarding their use or allocation would be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, stated that the FCTA is finalising records of compliance for individuals and organisations whose default periods were ten years or less, adding that appropriate actions would follow upon completion of the review.

In response to reports that some of the affected property owners have filed legal challenges against the revocation, Nwankwoeze noted that there is no court decision presently restraining the FCTA from enforcing the revocation orders.

“As such, the FCTA is not restricted in the discharge of its lawful functions on the affected properties,” he said.

The directive to seal the PDP’s national headquarters, a politically symbolic move, comes amid broader efforts by the FCT Administration to enforce urban regulations and reclaim unused or underdeveloped properties across the capital.
