A woman is being allowed to marry her dead boyfriend at a ceremony in France.

The grieving fiancée is using an obscure French law to tie the knot almost two years after he died.

The woman, in her 30s and named only as Pascale, wrote four letters to President Francois Hollande begging permission to wed heart-attack victim Michel.

She has now been allowed to go ahead this year with only a picture of her groom at a ceremony in St Omer in northern France.

The pair lived together for almost seven years before he passed away a month before their wedding in June 2012.

Pascale told France Television: “Although he is gone, he is still my man. I wrote to the President with all my heart.

“I went beyond simple words and it was accepted.”

The legislation that allows posthumous marriages dates back to 1959 when a dam burst and killed 420 people in southern France.

Since then, 300 people have wed dead lovers.
