Must read

The Cameroonian government has announced that it has killed about 100 Boko Haram insurgents after they attempted to enter its territory.

Government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary in a statement which was broadcast on state radio said the Cameroonian army dealt a “severe setback” to the insurgents in clashes that took place in the Northern part of the country.

According to a report by Punch, independent verification could not be made as at press time, though the government statement claims that the terrorists launched two shells on Fotokol in Cameroon, on the boarder with Nigeria at 1:pm on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

Parts of the statement went thus: “There were no casualties reported on the Cameroonian side after the attack. Our defence forces responded vigorously with mortar fire aimed at the positions held by units of the Boko Haram terrorist group that was behind the attack. The Cameroonian response resulted in over 100 deaths among the aggressors,”

The Cameroon government further added that it succeeded in forcing the insurgents back to the Nigerian border town of Gamboru Ngala, seized by the insurgents about a week ago and separated by Fotokol by a mere bridge.

Recently, the advances of the insurgents have forced residents of Nigerian border towns to flee to Cameroon in a bid to find safety from the terrorists.
