10 Die, 40 Houses Razed As Fulani Herdsmen Attack Nasarawa

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded Eggon community of Gidan Gambo in Lafia East Development Area of Nasara state killing ten and razing 40 houses.

The men armed with AK47 rifles invaded the village in the early hours of Tuesday, September 24, 2014 leaving ten dead, scores injured and 40 houses burnt down.

It can be recalled that the Eggon community has suffered countless attacks by Fulani insurgents since hostilities broke out between the warring parties in the state.

A resident of Gidan Gambo, Likita Alaku, who spoke to the press said over 400 gunmen invaded the community at about 6am and started shooting sporadically. He said he managed to escape the attack.

Alaku said: ‘’We wake up with a heavy rain and saw many Fulani people with AK 47 rifles surrounded the village and started shooting in all directions and burning houses,’’ he stated.

He pointed out the sophistication of the weapon in possession of the insurgents and advised the federal and state governments and security agencies to disarm the gunmen to prevent them from attacking innocent people further.

The Police public relations officer, Nasarawa State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Umaru Ismaila Numan, confirmed the incident saying only one life was lost in the invasion.

H e said the command was on top of the matter and their men mobilised to the scene to restore normalcy.
