Brazil midfielder, Fred has received a one year ban from the governing body of South American football for doping.

The Shaktar Donetsk player tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide during the Copa America in Chile. Prior to this verdict, the 22-year-old has continued to play for his Ukrainian based side.

The South American football confederation has now backdated the ban to June 26, 2015. In a situation where the world football governing body FIFA decides to make it a worldwide ban, Fred will cease to play in the league for four months.
