RWANDA 2016: Nigeria And Tunisia Settle For A Draw In Kigali

The Super Eagles of Nigeria held the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Nyamirambo in Kigali on Friday, January 22, 2016.

The Group C match of the ongoing CHAN championship was a keenly contested one but both teams settled for a draw at the end.

Just before the half time, Tunisian attacker Ahmed Akaichi scored a beautiful girl but referee Joshua Bondo controversially cancelled the goal as he ruled that the ball had passed the corner line before the cross which resulted in the goal. Replays have since shown that the referee made a wrong decision.

Both teams went in at half time with score still a goalless draw. Five minutes into the second half and Nigeria’s hat-trick hero against Nigeria popped up to score a beautiful goal after connecting to a clean pass from man of the match, Osas Okoro.

Tunisia scored a well deserved equalizer through their dangerman Akaichi in the 70th minute of the match. The North Africans could have gotten a winner in the last minutes of the match but for the defensive brilliance of substitute Kalu Orji who cleared off the line in the 77th minute and the sharp reflexes of goalkeeper Ikechukwu Vincent Ezenwa.

Nigeria’s next and final group match comes up against Guinea in Gisenyi on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.
