CNN projects Donald Trump will win the Republican primary in Vermont as he and Hillary Clinton tighten their grips on the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations.
Voters went to the polls in a dozen states and have handed wins to Clinton and Trump in seven states each. The Republican caucuses in Alaska have not yet been decided.
Democratic results:
- Hillary Clinton — Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia — plus American Samoa
- Bernie Sanders — Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma and his home state of Vermont.
- Donald Trump — Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.
- Ted Cruz — Oklahoma and Texas
- Marco Rubio — Minnesota
Victories for Ted Cruz in his home state of Texas — the night’s biggest prize in terms of delegates — and in Oklahoma were crucial wins that gave him a rationale to carry on in the race. He pointed to those triumphs, combined with his victory in the Iowa caucuses, as proof that only he can actually beat Trump.
But that argument was complicated when Marco Rubio notched his first win of the election season in Minnesota. The Florida senator insisted in an interview with CNN that he will move forward and doesn’t believe Trump will win the nomination.
