An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ondo State on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, slammed a three-month imprisonment on Olanrewaju Anjuwon, an 18-year-old boy, for stealing phones worth N34,000.
Banji Ayeomoni, a chief magistrate, who handed down the verdict, did not give convict an option of fine.
He said the sentence should serve as a deterrent to others, especially teenagers, who engage in stealing.
The accused, an artisan, whose address is unknown, had pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing preferred against him.
Earlier, Zedekiah Orogbemi, the Police Prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offence at No. 14, Omotehinse St., along Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road on April 20, 2018, at 12.30 p.m.
Orogbemi said the accused stole a Techno WX2 android phone and an Itel 21S phone, valued at N24,000 and N10,000 respectively, property of the complainant, Olamide Omoyemi.
The offence violated Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State 2006.
