Joseph Yesi, a 19-year-old is to spend the next six months in prison for stealing a motorcycle valued at N220,000, a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court handed down the sentence in Lagos on Wednesday.
Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere, who gave the verdict, did not give the convict an option of fine. Yesi, a resident of Gbagada area of Lagos, was convicted of a charge of theft after he pleaded guilty
He, however, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy. Yesi had stolen a motorcycle with registration no. KJA 713 QJ valued at N220,000, property of the complainant, Mr. Garniba Barms.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 6, 2018, about 5.40 p.m. at Banjoko Street, Gbagada, Lagos.
She said the accused was caught with the motorcycle by passersby who intervened and called in the Police. They recovered the motorcycle from the accused.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
