At least three policemen had reportedly died on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 during a fierce gun duel with some heavily armed men suspected to be kidnappers who attempted to abduct the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Jerry Needam.
Needam disclosed this in a statement after the foiled kidnap attempt which he believed was masterminded by his political opponents.
He commended the proactive efforts of policemen deployed to rescue him during the attempted kidnap and alleged assassination attempt on his life.
According to him, one of the policemen who died during the deadly exchange that lasted for several hours was an Assistant Superintendent, ASP.
While expressing gratitude to God for sparing his life, Needam said two of the policemen and his security guard sustained bullet wounds during the incident and were receiving treatment at a hospital, according to Vanguard.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad had yet to issue a statement on the incident.
