Ebonyi State Police Command has on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, dismissed four police constables for alleged offences such as stealing, extortion, engaging in illegal duty and absconding from duty.

One of the policemen allegedly stole a motorcycle while the others were accused of embarking on illegal duty were they allegedly extorted N130,000 from their victim.

The victim reported the matter to the command, leading to the arrest of the constables, who were later paraded after their identification by their victim.

The policemen were detained for some weeks before their dismissal.

Awosola Awotinde, the state commissioner of police, confirmed the sack of the constables.

The commissioner said the policemen had been tried and dismissed and would be charged to court.

He said: “This issue you are referring to, a policeman who allegedly stole a motorcycle has been dismissed and he is going to face the full wrath of the law. We will not only dismiss them from the Force but we will charge them to court for the criminal offence they have committed.

“You cannot go to court as a policeman. You must first be dismissed and then you go to court as a civilian, as a suspect.

“The affected policemen are constables. The one that stole motorcycle and the one that fought with somebody over money are constables. They have been tried and dismissed.”
